Brian O'Mahony, P.E.
Founding Principal, Electrical Engineering

Brian O'Mahony graduated with first class honors from the University of Ireland at Cork in 1972 with a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering. After a year of post-graduate studies, he went on to serve as Project Engineer for the Electricity Supply Board of Ireland. Having moved to the United States in 1975, Brian joined Charles Krieger and Associates in San Francisco, becoming a key designer for that firm. In 1979, along with Jan Myer, he founded O'Mahony & Myer.

Brian is a gifted electrical engineer with 34 years in the electrical construction industry. From its inception, O'Mahony & Myer has followed his creative and rigorous engineering approach, where each project is treated as special, and where there is great care taken in the preparation of detailed and complete construction documents. As a senior founding principal of the firm, Brian is responsible for major project concept and review, as well as engineering of especially challenging projects such as data centers, technology-intensive environments, and high voltage distribution systems. Brian is a registered professional engineer and is a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE).

Jan P. Myer

Jan P. Myer, IES
Founding Principal, Lighting Design Studio

Since joining with Brian O’Mahony in 1979 to establish O'Mahony & Myer, Jan Myer’s reputation as an award-winning architectural lighting designer has grown steadily, along with the Lighting Design Studio he has built here. The design principles he established at the outset have served as the foundation for every one of the firm's lighting design projects to this day.

Many of his completed designs have been recognized with design awards from various industry associations, such as the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America (IESNA), and publication in industry journals, such as Architectural Record, Lighting Design + Application and House Beautiful. During his nearly thirty-five year career, Jan has served as principal-in-charge for well over a thousand projects, and as project electrical and lighting designer for scores more while working early in his career for respected Bay Area firms such as The Engineering Enterprise, Gayner Engineers and Charles H. Krieger & Associates.

Educated at California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo, Jan is a long-standing member of the IESNA.

Paul A. Carey

Paul A. Carey, I.Eng.
Principal, Electrical Engineering

Paul Carey is an electrical engineer responsible for both design and project management, including electrical design and specifications for facility power services and distribution systems; security systems; tel/data systems; fire alarm systems; building access controls; process utilities; emergency generator systems; medium voltage systems; and fire station ring down/call out system design. In recent years Paul has amassed extensive experience in the design of Photovoltaic Systems of all sizes as well as designing to “green building” standards. During his 31 years of experience in the electrical construction industry, in Ireland and the United States, Paul has been responsible for hundreds of projects in the civic, industrial, commercial, educational, and medical fields. He has worked on high tech buildings in the Silicon Valley, numerous state-of-the-art libraries and educational facilities throughout California, projects in the Middle East, and construction at the Dublin International Airport.  

Paul began his career in the electrical industry as an apprentice electrician and after completing his apprenticeship he entered engineering school at the College of Technology in Dublin, Ireland. Paul is a registered Incorporated Engineer by The Engineering Council in the UK as well as a certified member of the Institute of Engineering and Technology, also of the UK. In addition, Paul holds an electrical contractors C-10 license in the State Of California.

Pieter Colenbrander

Pieter Colenbrander, P.E.
Principal, Electrical Engineering

Pieter Colenbrander is a licensed professional engineer in four states, with over twenty-three years experience in the field, and is responsible for the detailed design and specification of the full range of facility electrical and signal systems on every type of project we undertake. His specialties include fire and life safety systems, photovoltaic renewable energy systems, and telecommunications systems design and engineering. Pieter is also one of our in-house experts on recommended sustainable design practices and the LEED and CHPS certification standards.

Pieter has managed some of our most prestigious projects in recent years including the award-winning restoration of the historic Burlingame Public Library, the UC Berkeley Central Computing Systems Data Center, the new Heritage High School Campus, and the Sacramento Valley and White River Amphitheaters for SFX Entertainment. Pieter received his Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo, and is a registered professional engineer in California, Nevada, Oregon and Idaho.

David Orgish

David Orgish, IES
Principal, Lighting Design Studio

David Orgish is a Principal of Peters & Myer, the lighting design studio of O’Mahony & Myer. Prior to joining the firm, David worked on several high-profile projects such as the flagship stores for Ann Taylor in New York and San Francisco, Isla Magica amusement park in Sevilla, Spain, and Niketown retail store in Honolulu. He has designed and manufactured his own custom luminaires through a San Francisco-based furniture showroom. David was also a manufacturer's specification representative and Product Design Manager for two different international luminaire manufacturers, which gives him a unique perspective on the issues confronted in designing illumination systems for buildings and their surroundings. While associated with another firm, David won an EPRI (Electric Power Research Institute) award for energy efficiency for the renovated lighting systems for the ESPRIT factory outlet store in San Francisco, CA.

Since joining O'Mahony & Myer David has designed the lighting for projects as diverse as the University of the Pacific Campus and Napa Valley College Relighting Master Plans, the St. Francis Winery, Heritage High School, and several public libraries and community centers, including the Dublin Public Library, for which he was awarded the 2005 International Illumination Design Award of Merit from the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America (IESNA). He is also currently working on several LEED Silver and Gold registered projects.

David holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, with distinction, in Industrial Design from the California College of the Arts in San Francisco, where he is currently an Adjunct Professor. He is also a frequent lecturer at the P.G. & E. Energy Center in San Francisco.

Richard C. Peters

Richard C. Peters, FAIA
Professor Emeritus in Architecture, UC Berkeley
Founding Principal, Lighting Design Sudio

Richard Peters is an internationally-known lighting design consultant on many major architectural projects with over forty years of experience, and has been the lighting consultant to such renowned architects as Charles Moore, William Turnbull, Cathy Simon, Joseph Esherick, Laura Hartman and Antoine Predock. Until his retirement after 36 years, Dick was Professor of Architecture at the University of California at Berkeley, where he served as chairman of the Architecture Department. He is the recipient of the Berkeley Citation, the most prestigious award given to UC Berkeley faculty for distinguished achievement and notable service to the University.

An award-winning and extensively published specialist in the art and science of illumination, and a frequent presenter at industry symposia and conventions, Dick participates in the conceptualization of lighting schemes for all major projects at O'Mahony & Myer. Dick has served as director of the San Francisco Chapter of the A.I.A. and is past president of the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture (ACSA). He was educated at Georgia Institute of Technology, and received a Master of Arts and Architecture degree from Princeton University.

Craig Oty

Craig Oty, P.E., LC, IALD
LEED® Accredited Professional
Senior Project Engineer;  Senior Designer, Lighting Design Studio

Craig Oty holds a degree of Bachelor of Architecture and a degree of Bachelor of Science in Architectural Engineering from the University of Kansas. This design-based educational background gives him the unique ability to work with clients as both a design collaborator and a technical specialist. His career of over 16 years in San Francisco and Portland, Oregon, has produced many notable projects as well as several regional and international awards for lighting and building design.

A highly skilled electrical engineer as well as an award-winning lighting designer, Craig is a valuable dual contributor at O'Mahony & Myer. His work for the firm includes the Hamilton Landing Building 8, Mayfair Community Center, Yosemite National Park Curry Village renovation, the Gullo Student Center at Evergreen Valley College, and the historic Episcopal Church of Saint Mary the Virgin in San Francisco.

Craig is a registered Electrical Engineer in California, is Lighting Certified (LC) by the NCQLP, and is a Professional Member of the IALD. He is also a LEED Accredited Professional and member of the Daylighting Committee of the IESNA. Craig is a frequent guest lecturer at universities and industry associations including the AIA and IESNA.

Galway O'Mahony

Galway O'Mahony, P.E.
Project Electrical Engineer

As Project Electrical Engineer, Galway O'Mahony serves as the P.E. responsible for overall management of the design teams assigned to each of several significant projects simultaneously. His duties include day-to-day project coordination and communication with the project architects and other project consultants for electrical engineering design, as well as complete coordination with our lighting design staff to ensure seamlessly integrated designs. His mastery of electrical power distribution systems, branch wiring design and coordination, fire alarm system design and lighting systems circuiting and control, is a key asset to the firm. Galway also helps to oversee the CAD/Production Department for all his projects in order to maintain quality control and ensure accurate production of the final issued drawings and specifications.

Galway graduated with distinction in 2003 from Harvey Mudd College, one of the country's top engineering schools, with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. A member of the N.F.P.A. and I.E.E.E., he is certified as a Professional Electrical Engineer in the State of California.

Herman Lim

Herman Lim
Electrical Project Designer

Herman Lim is an electrical designer and project manager for O'Mahony & Myer, with over 30 years experience in power distribution, lighting, signal and communication systems, for new and renovation projects, including commercial, institutional, and residential facilities, hospitals and laboratories, multi-story office buildings, residential housing, historical preservation and high-profile projects such as museums, libraries and places of worship. Herman's skills in project management and construction administration complement his broad technical expertise and exceptional design capabilities.

Herman studied environmental design and architecture, and graduated from the University of California at Berkeley in the mid-seventies - which in itself is a testament to his steadfast self discipline and prodigious powers of concentration!

Junette Kushner

Junette Kushner
Electrical and Lighting Designer

Junette Kushner has more than 25 years of experience in electrical and lighting design. She has worked on a broad range of projects including college and high school campuses, libraries, community centers, hotels, retail establishments and high-end residential estates. Among her more memorable projects are the Sony Metreon, The Four Seasons Hotel in San Francisco, and George Lucas’ Skywalker Ranch. Recently, Junette has been involved on numerous projects that have won the IESNA Illumination Design Award for excellence in lighting.

While overall sustainability and energy efficiency are always priority goals, Junette’s work consistently meets or exceeds the client’s aesthetic expectations as well. Along with circuiting most of the major lighting projects for O’Mahony & Myer, Junette is the firm’s specialist in lighting controls, dimming and daylighting systems for green buildings. Junette majored in architecture and interior design at New York City College School of Architecture.

Michael Mindeman

Michael Mindeman
Senior Electrical Designer

Michael Mindeman serves as both electrical designer and project manager for many of the firm's projects. His areas of expertise include power distribution, signal, telecommunications infrastructure, emergency and life safety systems for a wide variety of project types including school facilities and housing, offices, wineries, retail stores, industrial facilities and libraries.

Mike's education, aside from studying engineering at Broward Community College in Florida, has included extensive on-the-job training in mechanical and electrical engineering and design at the side of professional engineers for the past 20 years.

Tammy  L. Korencik

Tammy L. Korencik
Project Lighting Designer, Lighting Design Studio

As a Project Lighting Designer at O'Mahony & Myer Tammy Korencik assists in all project phases, including schematic renderings, lighting calculations, luminaire specification, submittal review, and special research projects.  Additionally, she has taken the lead as the main lighting designer for several new and existing projects in the office.  Her understanding of lighting design issues, the integration of architectural lighting systems with all other building components, and her strong technical abilities make her an invaluable member of our Lighting Design Studio.

Tammy received her Bachelor of Science in Architectural Engineering at the University of Colorado at Boulder with an emphasis on lighting and electrical systems.

Marisa Myer

Marisa Myer
Assistant Lighting Designer, Lighting Design Studio

Marisa Myer joined our lighting design studio in early 2007, allowing her to accelerate her initial professional training as a project lighting designer, while simultaneously completing final coursework at San Francisco State University, for her Bachelor of Arts degree in Art History and Industrial Design.  Marisa, having studied studio art (drawing and painting) and multiple areas of design (digital, graphic, architectural, product, electronic, and lighting), brings to the table a demonstrated mastery of the design elements essential to a successful career in the art and science of illumination design. Marisa's responsibilities include preparation of computer generated lighting calculations for the full range of project interior and exterior applications, as well as preparation of calculations and documentation for California Title 24 Energy Standards, luminaire research and specifications, system(s) layouts, and preparation of renderings and other presentation materials.

Talmadge Vessels

Talmadge Vessels
CAD Manager

Following a successful career in engineering, drafting and computer aided design for Southern Pacific Railroad, P.G. & E., and his own CAD service business, Talmadge Vessels joined O’Mahony & Myer in 1994 and was promoted to CAD Manager in 1995. Besides supervising our team of CAD operators, he is responsible for coordinating all CAD work with the various project managers to ensure accurate rendering and timely delivery of all drawings and submittals.

Talmadge graduated from Texas A&M University with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology. Among his many accomplishments, he is a published author of young people’s literature, including the acclaimed The Wizard of Is and the Power of Not.

Gene Dougherty

Gene Dougherty
Director of Marketing and Business Development

Prior to joining O’Mahony & Myer out of early retirement in 2004, Gene Dougherty worked for Fortune 500 companies in the electronic components and semiconductor industry. He served eight years as Director of the Electron Tube & Device division of Toshiba America, and later served as Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Saft America, a subsidiary of the French telecommunications giant, Alcatel. Gene provides professional business analysis and development skills that have proven invaluable as we have significantly grown our practice over the past few years. In addition – and of most immediate benefit to our clients – Gene is responsible for coordinating RFQ and RFP submittals and proposals, and has improved our ability to respond in a thorough and timely fashion to all requests for qualifications and fee proposals. Gene makes our clients’ work easier by his responsiveness and dedication to providing them with the best service possible.

Gene graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Gonzaga University and received his Masters Degree in psychology from Portland State University.

Sandeep Raj

Sandeep Raj
Fiji Office Manager

Sandeep Raj manages O’Mahony & Myer’s affiliate office in the Fiji Islands.

He has been with the company for 9 years, having started as an AutoCAD operator and progressed to office manager and electrical designer, specializing in Fire Alarm Systems design.

Raj is responsible for coordinating all projects processed thru the Fiji office, managing the workflow and staffing assignments. He also serves as the operations manager, handling office administration, payroll, taxes – all day to day business matters associated with the Fiji operation.

Raj holds a Diploma in Architectural Technology from the Fiji Institute of Technology.
